The jury has recommended sentences of 25 years on the second-degree murder charge and one year on the grand larceny charge. Judge Hogshire will hold a formal sentencing hearing on April 16, 2012, at which time he could reduce, but could not increase, the jury’s sentence. He will get credit for time served. The 26 years, if imposed by the judge, would be subject to about 2 1/2 years off for good behavior (between 10% and 15% off), so he could end up with about 22 more years behind bars.
It’s been a long and tragic story.
